World Grand Prix Betting: Wade v Brown

a 2-1 James Wade victory is 9/4 at bet365 and looks a good bet

World number 29 Steve Brown is a sterner test for James Wade than he may at first appear. The Bomber has been a steady performer on the pro-tour since 2007, and his tortoise-like climb up the rankings has seen him achieve his current highest rank of 29; within the all-important top 32. His World Grand Prix qualification came about via the Players Championship Order of Merit Qualifiers, in which he placed 12th. It is more difficult to qualify through the Players Championships, which place a premium on current form.

Steve Brown is a quality darts player and if his steady as he goes climb up the rankings continues he could be a force in darts. 30 is young in darts, his darting peak is surely ahead of him.

Taken in that light the achievements of Brown’s opponent, James Wade, are all the more impressive. Wade is 28, presumably not as his peak, and has done everything but win a World Championship. He is ranked 3 in the world and seeded 3rd in Dublin. The most significant encounter between Wade and Brown was the first round of the 2010 World Championship. The Machine defeated The Bomber 3-1. He cannot repeat this mark, as the World Grand Prix first round is a best-of-3 format, but a 2-1 James Wade victory is 9/4 at bet365 and looks a good bet for this appealing first round tie.

Sky Bet are offering 5/4 for Wade to hit the most 180s in the contest. If you’re brave Stan James and Sky Bet are offering 3/1 on a Brown victory.

The defending champion will be looking to emulate the form he displayed at the UK Open in June, he steamrolled all opposition in that tournament. His current form is not as impressive, poor performances in the Championship League and a first round exit in Saturday’s Dublin Players Championship are worrying for Wade backers. However he should have enough to defeat Brown.

Recommended bet:

Wade to win 2-1 @ 9/4 with Bet365
