Wade and King crowned in Spain
James Wade and Mervyn King took the weekend’s two PDC Pro Tour titles following an action-packed couple of days in Benidorm, Spain.
Wade defeated Raymond van Barneveld 6-2 in Saturday’s final to claim his second title in as many weekends. The Dutchman had earlier defeated Phil Taylor in the semi-finals while Wade booked his place in the final with a 6-4 victory over Dave Chisnall.
It was a mixed weekend for Barney who beat Taylor for a second time on Sunday but later lost out at the semi-final stage again, this time thwarted by Wes Newton.
King took Sunday’s title by beating Newton 6-3 in the final, having already seen off Ronnie Baxter, Jamie Caven and last Sunday’s winner Colin Osborne earlier in the day.
Mark Webster also hit the headlines on Sunday as he hit a nine-dart finish in the opening leg of his first round match against Juan Huertas. The Welshman then went on to beat Steve Evans, Wayne Jones and Vincent van der Voort before losing to Newton in the quarters.
Gary Anderson also exited the competition at the quarterfinal after he was forced to concede his match against when 5-4 behind against Jamie Caven. Details of the exact reason for the Scotsman’s withdrawal are as yet unclear.
The PDC ProTour goes to Crawley next weekend for another double-header that will be the last competitive action before the Grand Slam of Darts, which begins on November 12.
