Taylor heads betting after Premier League wildcards revealed
Phil Taylor tops the 2012 Premier League betting markets after it was confirmed that Simon Whitlock, Raymond van Barneveld, Andy Hamilton and Kevin Painter would join The Power, Adrian Lewis, James Wade and Gary Anderson in this year’s tournament.
The top four in the world rankings were automatically handed a place while the four wildcards were announced on Tuesday evening at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner. Hamilton and Painter received their invitations from the PDC while the Sky Sports wildcards went to Barney and Whitlock.
“The form of Andy Hamilton and Kevin Painter recently has seen them earn deserved Wildcards to play in the McCoy's Premier League, and I'm sure they will add great colour and quality to the tournament,” said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
“Simon Whitlock was sensational in reaching the World Championship semi-finals and Raymond van Barneveld remains one of the most popular players throughout the darts world.”
Scotsman Anderson goes into the tournament as defending champion and is priced as the 10/3 second favourite by bookmaker Sky Bet to retain his crown. Taylor, who was knocked out at the semi-final stage last year, is the 15/8 favourite, with world champion Adrian Lewis at odds of 4/1.
The Wizard comes in at 7/1 with fellow World Championship semi-final loser James Wade at 8/1. Barney is 16/1 to arrest a disappointing slump in form by winning the Premier League, and debutants Hamilton and Painter bring up the rear at odds of 25/1.
