New BDO Board Confirmed

Martin Adams, three-time Lakeside champion, is in charge of players, media and IT

The British Darts Organisation have confirmed the specific roles of the newly elected board.

Barry Gilbey has been appointed chairman, Martin Adams, three-time Lakeside champion, is in charge of players, media and IT, Wayne Williams takes control of tournaments, Sue Getty is responsible for correspondence, Vic Sexton in charge of rules and Derek Watson will work on youth development.

A statement on the BDO website read: “The collective aims and aspirations of the new BDO Board are firmly focused on the BDO’s important mission statement of ‘Darts For All’ , and the continuation of providing affordable darts and opportunities for all players, irrespective of age, gender or ability.”

Gilbey was expected to offer the outgoing Olly Croft – founder of the BDO – an honorary role within the organization. However, Croft is unhappy at the changes made and has blasted the new BDO board in an interview with Darts Monthly.

“There’s not  a businessman among them,” said Croft.

“Barry Gilbey, he’s a fireman. How can a fireman run an organisation like the BDO?

“They started off by offering me the job of secretary. I’m not being their secretary. And then they offered me this life presidency. Well the BDO’s already got a president. I told them they could make me managing director if they wanted…”
