Imperious Taylor heads field in Wigan

Lewis will need to make the latter stages of back-to-back events

Phil Taylor is made the strong betting favourite to maintain his superiority in the sport when PDC players meet in Wigan for the final weekend of Players Championship events.

Sky Bet make The Power their 6/5 betting favourite to win Saturday’s Players Championship tournament, and the same price to win Sunday’s event.

This will be the last weekend of events before the cut off for the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals that kicks off on December 8 at Doncaster Dome.

Those in danger of missing out on a top 32 spot that is required to qualify for the finals include Terry Jenkins, Wayne Jones, Michael van Gerwen, Andy Hamilton and Richie Burnett. Dutch duo Raymond van Barneveld and Co Stompe will be watching on nervously as neither are involved this weekend while both are on the precipice of the top 32.

Adrian Lewis is currently 36th in the Players Championship Order of Merit and will need to make the latter stages of back-to-back events in order to qualify for the finals. He is priced at odds of 14/1 to win each of the weekend’s events.

One man without any such problems is Grand Slam of Darts runner-up Gary Anderson. He currently tops the Order of Merit and is priced at odds of 10/1 to add another tour title to his roster this weekend. The floor’s in-form player, Justin Pipe, is a 25/1 shot.
