Grand Slam Betting: Newton v Nicholson

Both are seemingly getting better with each tournament

The two red hot favourites to qualify from Group F duly delivered the results that were expected of them in their first contests as Wes Newton saw off Magnus Caris fairly comfortably and Paul Nicholson did even better, whitewashing Barrie Bates.

This Monday night match is most likely set to decide who will win the group, which is of great importance as the runner-up will face the winner of group E, which happens to be where Phil Taylor resides.

Newton and Nicholson are seen as two of the up and coming players in the PDC and both are ranked in the top 10 in the world now after a hugely successful couple of years for them both. Both are seemingly getting better with each tournament and consistently reaching the latter stages of televised events.

The world number seven, Newton, has the advantage in the head to head over the world number nine as in the eight matches between the two it is the man from Fleetwood who has won six, losing just two.

In what will be an extremely tight contest, there is very little value to be had and it will be a huge surprise if it ends anything more than one leg in either man’s favour. Nicholson has been made favourite with the majority of bookmakers, but even so the best price on Newton is evens and I would take that in a match where nearly everything is odds-on.
