Dublin Players Championship
Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and James Wade all return to the PDC ProTour circuit this weekend for the Dublin Players Championships.
The trio have been high-profile absentees from recent Players Championship events and the lack of match practice showed in the performances of Wade and Lewis at the Championship League Darts this week.
Lewis was eliminated from the competition on day one after winning just one of his seven matches while Wade lasted only 24 hours longer before he was eliminated on day two with just one from seven.
Taylor, however, qualified for the Championship League Winners Group with victory on day two. He had looked a little rusty throughout the week, particularly on his doubles, and was grateful for the match practice ahead of next week’s World Grand Prix.
“This has been a great preparation for the World Grand Prix,” said Taylor following his win.
“To have had two hard days of match play like this will stand me in good stead in Ireland next week, and I'm looking forward to the event.”
Simon Whitlock, Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson and Paul Nicholson are also amongst the 99 players that will line up for Saturdays Players Championship and the 98 competing in Sunday’s event. Both days’ tournaments will be played at the same venue as next week’s World Grand Prix.
