Championship League: Last chance saloon

He has shown consistency throughout

Championship League Group Eight represents the last chance for the players as Steve Brown, Dennis Priestley and Jelle Klaasen join Vincent van der Voort, Kevin Painter, John Part, Alan Tabern and Mark Dudbridge to battle it out for a place in Thursday’s Winners Group.

Steve Beaton became the latest player to qualify for the Championship League Winners Group as he defeated Painter 6-4 in Wednesday’s final.

“I'm delighted with that,” said Beaton. “I felt I played pretty well during the day, although a couple of times missing doubles cost me.

“To come through as a winner against John Part and Kevin Painter in the play-offs is a massive confidence boost for me and I can't wait to play in the Winners Group on Thursday now.”

It is Part whom the bookmakers have made the betting favourite to win today’s group. Ladbrokes offering odds of 4/1 on the Canadian after he finished third in yesterday’s group table before losing in the semis.

Van der Voort topped the group with five wins from seven and is priced at 5/1 by Sky Bet to win today’s group. Having toyed with the idea of backing him yesterday I think there is value in siding with him at those odds today. He has shown consistency throughout the tournament and hopefully he can seal the deal this afternoon.

Back Van der Voort to win Group Eight @ 5/1
