Championship League Group One Betting
The Championship League darts 2011 kicks off this Tuesday with defending champion James Wade and 2008 champion Phil Taylor amongst the eight players involved.
Wade will kick off the defence of his crown with an opening match against Gary Anderson, which bookmaker Paddy Power price 4/5 to 10/11 in slight favour of the Scot. Taylor begins his campaign against World Champion Adrian Lewis and is priced at 4/11 (Lewis 15/8) to get off to a winning start.
Also scheduled to compete in Group One are Terry Jenkins, Wes Newton, Mark Webster and Simon Whitlock. The winner of Group 1 will qualify for the tournament-concluding Winners Group, the bottom two will be eliminated from the competition whilst the other five will go through to Group Two on Wednesday.
Bookmaker Sky Bet make Taylor the 5/4 favourite to win Group One while the in-form Gary Anderson is 9/2.
Taylor, Wade (11/2), Lewis (13/2) and Jenkins (25/1) have not featured in any of the recent PDC ProTour events and therefore we can anticipate that they may be a little rusty, especially in their early matches.
Anderson comes into the Championship League on the back of Players Championship wins in Derby and Nuland while Mark Webster (20/1 to win Group 1) has enjoyed runs to the quarter-finals or better in each of the last three events.
Simon Whitlock (8/1) also didn’t play in Holland last weekend but had reached a semi final in Derby and quarter final in Canada earlier in the month.
Jenkins (8/11) and Webster (5/6) are the betting favourites to be eliminated from the Championship League at the end of the first group stage. Taylor is 25/1 to finish in the bottom two this Tuesday.
