Championship League betting odds released

Phil Taylor can be backed at odds of 13/8

Bookmakers have opened betting markets on who will win the upcoming Championship League darts.

James Wade will defend his title as the 13/2 third-favourite when the Championship League kicks off on 27 September for what will be the fourth annual staging of the event.

The obvious favourite is 2008 Championship League winner and world number one Phil Taylor, who can be backed at odds of 13/8 with Betfred. Second favourite is World Champion Adrian Lewis at odds of 6/1 and Premier League champion Gary Anderson is a 7/1 chance.

The tournament’s unique format sees a total of 29 players in with a chance of being crowned Championship League champion as a total of eight group stages are concluded with the Winners Group on 20 October.

Each player plays every other player in his group once with the top four then progressing to the semi-finals and final. The winner of the final goes through to the Winners Group while the bottom two in the league table are eliminated from the competition. Three players then join the remaining five for the next day’s group stage replacing the winner of the final and those relegated.

Colin Osborne won the title in 2009 and enters this year’s tournament at Group Five. He is priced at 125/1 by Sky Bet.

John Part is one of the floor’s in form players having won one title and reached a quarterfinal, semi-final and final in the four most recent Players Championship events. He enters the Championship League at Group Eight and is also 125/1 for the title.
