Big boys return for Benidorm
The world’s top nine players will all line-up for the Spanish Darts Trophy Players Championships this weekend in Benidorm as the countdown to the Grand Slam of Darts begins.
Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis, James Wade, Gary Anderson, Simon Whitlock, Wes Newton, Mark Webster, Raymond van Barneveld and Paul Nicholson are all in action over the weekend in what is one of the most competitive ProTour events in recent months.
Wade returned to action last weekend and claimed Saturday’s title with a win over the in-form Justin Pipe in the final. For both Lewis and Barney this will be their first competitive outing since the World Grand Prix, while Taylor is back in action after winning the Championship League Darts last Thursday.
Flying the Spanish flag this weekend will be World Cup pairing Antonio Alcinas and Carlos Rodriguez. The pair were surprise victors over England’s pairing of James Wade and Phil Taylor and Scotland’s Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton in the World Cup almost 12 months ago.
Play will commence at 12pm local time on each day with matches played over the familiar best-of-11 legs format.
