Anderson takes Nuland title
Gary Anderson won his third Nuland Players Championship title of the season with a 6-2 win over Colin Lloyd in Saturday’s final.
The Scot had already won back-to-back Nuland Players Championship titles in June of this year and justified his favouritism in the betting by taking his seventh PDC ProTour title of the season.
Anderson beat Dirk van Duijvenbode, Joe Cullen, Nigel Heydon and Colin Osborne en route to the quarter-finals. There he dispatched of Mark Webster 6-1 and followed that up with a 6-0 victory over Tony Ayres before comfortably beating Lloyd in the final.
Lloyd booked his place in the final – his first of the season – with a 6-4 win over Scott Rand in the semis. Rand’s run to the last four moved him above Co Stompe and Colin Osborne in the World Grand Prix qualification standings ahead of tomorrow’s cut-off point.
Brendan Dolan improved his chances of playing in next month’s World Grand Prix by beating John Henderson, Jamie Caven, Chris Thompson and Mark Dudbridge to qualify for the quarter-finals and add £1,000 to his winnings.
Anderson is the 10/3 favourite with 888sport to make it four out of four Nuland Players Championship wins this season by winning Sunday’s event. Wes Newton is the 9/1 second-favourite and Paul Nicholson the 12/1 third-favourite.
