Anderson 4/1 to top Order of Merit
Gary Anderson has been made Sky Bet’s 4/1 favourite to top the 2012 Players Championship Order of Merit.
The Scotsman has finished second in the rankings based on Players Championship tournaments only for each of the past two years, after finishing seventh in his maiden season in the PDC.
Last year a late surge from Justin Pipe, that saw him reach three finals in the space of four tournaments, helped him to the number one spot. The Force is quoted at odds of 20/1 to be crowned the king of the floor for a second consecutive year.
Australian Simon Whitlock topped the rankings 12 months previously and he is the 5/1 second-favourite this year: although his ankle problem may be a cause for concern to some backers.
Phil Taylor (8/1), James Wade (20/1), Raymond van Barneveld (66/1) and Adrian Lewis (25/1) tend to be quite selective in the number of Players Championship events that they play and therefore can be backed at greater odds than would usually be associated with players of their quality.
Paul Nicholson and Wes Newton were consistent performers on the circuit last season and are now established players in the PDC; they can each be backed at odds of 12/1 to top the rankings. While Dave Chisnall, who finished last year in ninth, is a 10/1 chance.
The Players Championship season begins on the final weekend in January with a double-header in Benidorm.
