Taylor too strong for van Gerwen
The top two players in the world will meet in another final this weekend as Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen clash for the chance to be the first ever Sydney Darts Masters champion on Saturday afternoon.
After something of a slow start to the tournament the quality has rocketed through the rounds and Taylor has reached its peak so far with his enormous 109.42 average in his hugely impressive 10-6 semi-final win over Simon Whitlock.
The averages in the other semi-final did not live up to that standard but the game was sensational nonetheless as MVG and Adrian Lewis produced yet another classic. The Dutchman prospered for the first time in four contests between the two and looked good throughout as he opened up with two 180s and hit some huge finishes along the way to a 10-7 win.
Taylor had the better of the two men in the epic World Championship final in January but then of course lost out in an equally immense final of the Premier League. Taylor then got the edge over his young rival by despatching him from the UK Open and after claiming that title and then the World Matchplay the Power certainly has the upper hand.
The Power is undoubtedly the best player on the planet still and although MVG can clearly get the better of him, as he has done in the past, he is not quite at the top of his game whilst Taylor is. That is why the world number one is the odds-on favourite to win this one at 10/11 with Bwin and it really is hard to back against him after the performance he put in this morning against Whitlock.
