Taylor to power past Barney
Phil Taylor’s relentless incredible performances continued on Saturday with a demolition of Peter Wright to set up a quarter-final against Raymond van Barneveld and understandably the Power is hot favourite to chalk up yet another win.
The world number one truly does look unbeatable at present and proved his brilliance yet again as he fired in an average of over 107 to see off Wright. Barney, in comparison, averaged under 90 as he squeezed past Robert Thornton in a deciding leg. Taylor is just 1/6 with Sporting Bet to win this one whilst the Dutchman is out at 5/1 with Bet365.
Barney may have picked up a couple of hard fought wins and that is encouraging for his fans as he is showing he has the stomach for a fight but he is not playing at his best and will not get near Taylor. The Power to win with a -3.5 handicap is 4/6 with Paddy Power and even at that short price it looks good value.
Taylor’s main threat for the title is now Michael van Gerwen after he eliminated Adrian Lewis on Saturday night. He will not have it all his own way against an in form Wes Newton in the last eight but he should still progress. Their contest should stretch to around the 14 leg mark and in that time over 7.5 180s looks very possible at 6/5 with Boyle Sports.
There looks to be good value in the contest between Ian White and Andy Hamilton with White available at 11/8 with Sky Bet. The man known as Diamond has looked to be in excellent form in dismissing Ronnie Baxter and Terry Jenkins thus far whilst the Hammer has not been at his best in his two wins. Hamilton may have much more experience in the latter stages of major tournaments but White is playing much the better darts right now and should be backed.
Finally practice partners square-off as Justin Pipe and Gary Anderson take to the oche in a contest that is very difficult to call. Anderson looks to be coming into some form after a strong showing at the Grand Slam and two good wins here although Pipe is also playing well and seems to be boosted playing in front of his home crowd.
Anderson is the favourite at 11/17 with 888sport whilst Pipe does look good value at 11/8 with Stan James. A more secure bet looks to be the over 14.5 legs though which is available at 4/5 with William Hill and looks absolutely nailed on with these two both playing well.
