Taylor doesn't have it sewn up yet
Phil Taylor may have been untouchable against Simon Whitlock in the semi-finals but Kim Huybrechts has the ability to push the great man all the way
So it looks like Phil Taylor is back in the mood again after a fairly hefty wobbly against Andy Hamilton. He just ripped a bang in form Simon Whitlock to shreds with about as devastating display of finishing as you are likely to see, at least at the end of the match.
Surely there is no one who can live with the Power on this form? Surely the trophy is already being wrapped up and popped in the post with a Stoke address on the packet? Well this is all a bit similar to the final of the UK Open when Phil romped to victory against all comers on route to facing the heavily un-fancied Rob Thornton who would bow to the unrelenting force of a power surge.
But that was not to be, Phil had peaked too early, he couldn’t buy a double after some cracking finishing just before the showpiece contest. People ignored the fact that night that Rob had played excellent darts throughout the tournament much like Kim Huybrechts has done over the weekend in Minehead. The Belgian has been superb over the last couple of days and is well capable of averaging three figures and pushing the Power all the way.
If Phil performs as he did against Whitlock he will win, but if he drops much below that then the Hurricane has every chance of blowing him away and at the prices he is being quoted at he may well be worth a punt.
