Taylor and Jackpot set for Gibraltar final
The first two quarter-finals at the Gibraltar Darts Trophy threw up some pretty significant shocks as Jamie Lewis saw off Kevin Painter and Adrian Lewis defeated the world number two Michael van Gerwen.
Both went all the way to 11 legs and both Lewis’ will be feeling great having come through such tight contests. They now face each other in the semi-finals and understandably given his added experience and the fact he disposed of MVG it is Adrian who is the clear favourite.
Often on stage a win over the very biggest names can be followed by a sub-standard performance but that is unlikely to happen in Gibraltar as, despite all that Jamie has achieved this weekend, a confident Adrian will be too much for him. Jackpot has had a poor year so far but that win over Mighty Mike could just turn it around and I expect him to make his first Euro Tour final of the season.
There he will almost certainly face Phil Taylor who looks to be somewhere near his best on the Iberian Peninsula. He didn’t give Steve Beaton a chance in the last eight as he battered him 6-0 despite the Adonis averaging three figures. Unfortunately for Beaton it wasn’t good enough to deal with Taylor’s near 113 average which was an unbelievable feat.
There he will meet Dave Chisnall who has been one of the standout performers throughout the tournament. Kim Huybrechts took some serious beating in the semi-finals and he is in top form heading into the clash with Taylor. We all know that Chizzy has done for the Power on the biggest stage of all so he will not be afraid of the world champion but Taylor just looks in too good touch to be beaten by anyone.
Chisnall will certainly push him further than the six sets that Steve Beaton managed but Taylor will prevail and set up a tasty looking clash with Adrian Lewis in the final.
