Power out of German Darts Masters
Phil Taylor’s late decision to pull out of the German Darts Masters has thrown something of a spanner in the works after we tipped him for glory in Sindelfingen this weekend, however, the rest of the field will be delighted to see the Power absent again as it improves their chances of glory greatly.
Michael van Gerwen is the new favourite at a best price of 2/1 with Bet365 and whilst he is very capable of lifting yet another trophy his recent form does not inspire you to back him at such a small price.
Adrian Lewis has similarly been uninspiring this month after such a fantastic July which saw him lift the European Championship and reach the World Matchplay final. He dropped out of the last European Tour event in the first round and made little impression in either Players Championship event in Barnsley so he is not worth backing either at a fairly slim 15/2 with Sporting Bet.
The real wildcard in this event is James Wade who is returning from suspension having been a little naughty on the tour over the last few months. He will be well aware that he is outside of the world’s top four for the first time in a long time and he needs tournament wins to regain his place in that group. He is 16/1 with Boyle Sports and that could prove tremendous value but it is too much of a stab in the dark to go after with any confidence.
The three men in the hottest form of late are Dave Chisnall, Peter Wright and Simon Whitlock who have dominated the latter stages of the most recent three tournaments. Any can mount a challenge in the south of Germany and all are capable of winning the tournament. Whitlock may be a rare winner on the stage but with Taylor out of the picture and MVG and Lewis struggling he is near enough the main man in the tournament. The Aussie could just cash in this weekend and at 12/1 with Betfred he is worth backing.
