Norris under pressure against Dekker

The star of the show in the BDO World Championships has been Alan Norris who, after three upset victories on the spin, finally goes into a contest as the favourite in his semi-final against Jan Dekker.

Chuck has seen off defending champion Scott Waites, number 10 seed Glen Durrant and many people’s tip for the title James Wilson; he’s not just scraped through these but only conceded three sets along the way and been hugely impressive in each clash.

93 averages in his first two battles whetted the appetite for his masterpiece in the quarter-final when he fired in a 97 average to defeat Wilson. This will have anyone in the tournament worried and is why he is a best price of just 3/10 with Boyle Sports for the win.

Dekker has been very decent himself though, if not as spectacular. He has steadily improved over the competition and, apart from a few edgy moments on the winning doubles, was excellent against Martin Adams in the last eight. His best price of 11/4 with Sky Bet is very generous and there will be plenty taking that up. Norris has never been to this stage before whilst Dekker has and that could play a part in this result, the pressure of being favourite could also way heavy on Chuck.

The Dutchman is unlikely to be blown away despite Norris’ impressive displays and backing Dekker with a +2.5 handicap at 5/6 with Bet365 looks very decent value.

The first semi-final clash sees tournament favourite Stephen Bunting take on number four seed Robbie Green in what should be a tasty affair. Each man has conceded just three sets in three matches but Bunting has been the standout player of the two which is why he is just 1/3 with Betfred to make the final.

What will be encouraging Green is that The Bullet produced his worst performance of the tournament in the quarter-finals against Rick Hofstra, but worryingly for Kong, Bunting still cruised through 5-2. Green has performed consistently through the competition with averages in the low 90s which will keep him in the game but will not worry the world number one if he can get back to his best.

Kong quite often gets a bit of a nosebleed at this stage of tournaments whilst Bunting is relentless in reaching and winning finals. The Bullet will up his game from the disappointing 90 average last time out and fly through to the final.
