Norris to cause another upset at Lakeside

Out of a packed day of second round action at the BDO World Championship on Wednesday the standout bet is on the man who dumped out the defending champion with Alan Norris going in as second favourite against Glen Durrant.

Norris turned in one of the performances of the first round as he battered Scott Waites 3-0 with a 93 average and never looked like doing anything but winning against the Yorkshireman. If he can repeat that display then he can beat anyone in this competition and certainly the relatively inexperienced Durrant.

The 11th seed is a fine player himself though and looked very decent with a 3-0 win of his own first up against the qualifier Mike Day. It could certainly be a close match but Norris is too good value to turn down at EVENS with Paddy Power.

There is also some value in backing Rick Hofstra to beat Martin Atkins after the Dutchman’s impressive start to the competition. Hofstra hammered his countryman Remco van Eijden 3-0 and hit the key figure of a 90 average which will give him a chance against anyone. Atkins may have scored a whitewash win of his own but his opponent Jeffrey de Graaf was awful and the scoreline proved nothing. Hofstra is favourite but available at 5/6 with Bet Victor and that looks a very good price indeed.

The other decent price on Wednesday is another Dutchman in Jan Dekker who is once again performing well on the Lakeside stage. He made short work of Benito can de Pas first up and should continue to impress against Geert De Vos. The Belgian was decent enough in his initial win but has never been past the second round whilst Dekker has on two of his three appearances at the World Championship. Backing the Dutchman at 4/5 with Ladbrokes looks like a very decent option.

Elsewhere it looks like the odds-on favourites should prosper with Martin Adams against Ross Montgomery, Robbie Green taking on Gary Robson, Stephen Bunting meeting Dave Prins and Wesley Harms taking on Tony Eccles. The four aforementioned players of those pairs are nailed on to progress and as an accumulator at 11/4 it looks great value with Boyle Sports.
