MVG will struggle with stellar Jackpot
The four men that were being backed for success pre-tournament are the ones that have delivered as Michael van Gerwen, Adrian Lewis, Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock make up a stellar line-up in the last four of the Sydney Darts Masters.
First up MVG takes on Adrian Lewis and the bookmakers continue to underestimate the chances of Jackpot despite his tremendous recent form and good recent record against the Dutchman.
MVG may have the better of the head-to-head history between the two but Lewis has come to the fore of late winning on the last three occasions the two have met. Jackpot has eliminated Mighty Mike from the World Matchplay, European Championship and Gibraltar Darts Trophy in recent months so he will not be scared of the world number two.
Lewis has also been in the better form of the two Down Under with averages around the 100 mark whilst MVG has been a little off his best despite two comfortable wins.
On his day of course, Michael van Gerwen can turn on the style and dismantle anyone in the world but on present form and recent record Lewis looks a price far too good to turn down at a best of 13/8 with Boyle Sports.
The second semi-final should be equally entertaining as the first as the home favourite Whitlock takes on the all-powerful world number one Phil Taylor. Both men have been in scintillating form so far in Sydney but worryingly for the home crowd the Power has been looking near his unbeatable best.
In the quarter-finals against Paul Nicholson Taylor bashed in an 108.3 average to despatch his opponent, something that if he does it again the Wizard will not be able to keep up with in a race to 10 legs.
Whitlock has been around the 100 mark as well and looked excellent in defeating Andy Hamilton on Thursday so he will not take the same battering that Taylor’s first two opponents took but he is likely to still come up short. The Power to win but the match to go beyond 16.5 legs at evens with Bet365 looks a good bet.
