Kist to topple Barney again
Tulips, clogs, marijuana and any other Dutch stereotypes you can think of will all be abandoned tonight as the country has something better to do; watch their three best darts players all battle it out for a place in the semi-finals of the Grand Slam.
Holland has been brilliantly represented in this tournament, but no more so than on Saturday evening when Michael van Gerwen will take on Scott Waites and Raymond van Barneveld will lock horns once more with Christian Kist.
Tournament favourite Van Gerwen has continued to enhance his already glowing reputation this week and has had plenty of money placed on him to win the world title in January following his stunning defeat of Phil Taylor on Thursday night. He has certainly stolen the show, but Waites has been playing superbly as well, and also beat the Power with a brilliant performance in the group stages.
As good as Mighty Mike has been it would be foolish to rule out Scotty too Hotty’s chances given how well he has been playing so it’s not too tempting to back either man for the win. What the pair will guarantee is maximums with them both being scarily consistent on the treble twenty. The match is likely to go to at least 25 legs so we should be looking at about 16 180s between the two of them. Some have over 15.5 as odds-on but Ladbrokes has wandered up to 11/10 and this looks a very good price.
The Barney versus Kist match should be a real cracker as well as their first clash showed there is next to nothing to choose between the two of them. It finished 5-4 to the reigning BDO champ and whilst this one is unlikely to go to a decider, it will be a lengthy contest unless one of the two has an unexpectedly poor night.
Kist is clearly losing the battle in experience, but his win at Lakeside proved he has no problem keeping his form up over long matches and his nerve shredding win over Wes Newton in the last round showed he has some serious bottle. He is 2/1 in places to beat Barney for the second time this week and whilst the five-time world champ has been playing well, this looks great value for a current champion of the world.
