Harms to start in style

There is a very foreign feel to Sunday evening as all four players competing in the men’s tournament hail from overseas with the darting force that is the Netherlands represented by three of their finest players.

The first  contest sees Jan Dekker taking on fellow Dutchman Jeffrey de Graaf in a match the bookies see as being very close despite the latter being on debut at Lakeside. 2012 has been de Graaf’s breakthrough year at 22-years-old and he has thoroughly impressed, winning a couple of open titles and being involved at the latter stages of tournaments throughout the year. He even beat Dekker in the final of the Isle of Man Open back in March.

Dekker has won a couple of tournaments of his own though, including the British Classic and that is no mean feat given the list of previous champions. For such a young man, Dekker has garnered a fair amount of experience with this being his third world championships, he has a number of titles to his name and has appeared in two PDC Grand Slams so this will all work in his favour come Sunday night.

De Graaf will not make it easy for him but Dekker should see him off on the big stage and at 7/4 with be365 on the handicap, Mr Coat looks a good price.

The second match of the evening is not expected to be nearly so close between Wesley Harms and Lakeside debutant Rune David of Norway. Semi-finalist at the world championships and world masters last year and winner of the Swiss, England and French Opens, Harms is very much a force to be reckoned with in the BDO. He also impressed at the Grand Slam where he gave Terry Jenkins a real hiding in the group stages and made it to the last 16 on debut.

David has no such record to draw on with a last 16 berth at the Masters the highlight of his career to date and he will struggle to live with Sparky who is considered one of the outside contenders to win the title.

If ever there was a whitewash on the cards it is this one and at 2/1 with Ladbrokes it certainly seems worth backing.
