Hamilton great value in Gibraltar second round
Day one of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy sprung some big surprises as Connie Finnan did for Simon Whitlock and Mensur Suljovic saw off Wes Newton, but there are plenty of big names still in action on the Iberian Peninsula and some intriguing contests in the second round on Saturday.
Tournament favourites Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor take on Scott Rand and Dean Winstanley respectively and both should progress but will be in for tough contests with two players who did well to get through tricky first round contests.
Hunting for value in the second round draw and the standout offer is Andy Hamilton who is second favourite to beat Gary Anderson. The Flying Scotsman has been seriously struggling this season and is now out of the top 16 whilst the Hammer continues to impress, especially with a run to the UK Open final. Anderson is odds-on whilst Hamilton is evens with Bet365 and looks great value to pull off a win at that price.
The man that caused the story of the first round was Finnan and he also looks a good bet to continue his good form into round two against Steve Beaton. The Bronzed Adonis had a fairly easy time of it first up against George Federico but will not have it so simple against the Irishman who is more than capable of challenging the big boys. Finnan is 13/8 with Coral to spring another surprise and he is certainly worth backing at that price.
Looking at potential accumulators in the second round then it is a four-fold that looks the best option with John Part, Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis and Kim Huybrechts being our fantastic four. Part, Wright and Lewis are all coming up against qualifiers who have done remarkably well to get to this point but are unlikely to cause any more upsets. Huybrecths is taking on the Prince of Wales Richie Burnett who can be superb but is more often than not a bit erratic and the Belgian should progress. The four players to win comes in at 1.99/1 with Bet365 and this looks a decent punt.
