Bunting and Norris should produce a classic
One man was expected to reach today’s World Championship final and one was supposed to go out in round one so unsurprisingly it is Stephen Bunting who is odds-on to get his hands on the trophy whilst Alan Norris is a distant second favourite.
The Bullet has lived up to his reputation having started the tournament as the favourite cruising through to the final dropping just four sets in his four matches along the way. His skills peaked in round two when he fired in the only ton-plus average of the competition against Dave Prins but since then he has done more than enough to stroll through and that is why he is just 4/9 with Boyle Sports to lift the world title.
Talking of averages though Norris has been just as good as Bunting over the tournament, not dipping below 92 and proving to be sensational in terms of hitting maximums. Given these displays he seems a generous best price indeed of 9/4 with Stan James.
However, if there is one man who can keep up and outstrip Norris in the scoring stakes then it is Bunting who will not be blown away by Chuck as others have. They have met twice before with the Bullet coming out on top on both occasions, one a tight affair at the Welsh Classic which finished 4-3 and the other a 5-0 hammering at the 2012 Zuiderduin Masters.
It is difficult to see Bunting lose this one as he has not really looked vulnerable throughout the tournament and the feeling is that he possesses an extra gear to Norris if it is needed. However, no one has played particularly well against him so far and certainly not as well as Chuck almost certainly will.
Only one final in the last eight years has been completed in under 12 sets; with both men performing so consistently well then we should expect another lengthy contest and 3/4 with Bwin on over 10.5 sets looks a very good price.
