Barney can triumph in Dutch battle
The most anticipated match of the third week of Premier League darts 2013 is undoubtedly Michael van Gerwen taking on Raymond van Barneveld in a repeat of the Grand Slam final from the back end of last year.
That encounter was a fantastic contest that of course Barney emerged victorious from and he has kept that fine form going ever since. A narrow semi-final defeat at the World Championships was certainly a respectable performance and he is the only man in this event to have won both his matches thus far.
He is also the only man in this year’s Premier League to have averaged 100 and he has done it in both contests to date showing again what brilliant form he has been in.
Van Gerwen hasn’t been playing badly either though and he clearly now has a bit of a target on his back being the bright young thing on the circuit as both Phil Taylor and then Rob Thornton scrapped away to earn draws against him so far.
The draw is a risky bet in the Premier League but many will be tempted by it at 7/2 with Sky Bet given that both are in good form and MVG has already had two ties in two weeks. Picking a winner though, it is hard to argue with Barney’s fabulous form and it is somewhat surprising that he goes into this one as second favourite. His 6/4 with bet365 looks a good price for the best performing man in the competition so far and that’s my tip for this clash.
There may well be quite a lot to follow after the all-Dutch affair and that task is for Gary Anderson and Andy Hamilton to take on. Both have one win and one loss on their records after two weeks so there isn’t too much of a pattern to draw from either going into this one.
Both have turned in pretty solid performances even in defeat so both will be reasonably confident going into this one, especially as their wins came last week so they will be on an upward curve.
Last year Anderson gave Hamilton a bit of a hammering beating him 8-2 in their first match but Hamilton came back well and drew the second contest. It is the Scotsman who is favourite to win this one in Bournemouth with a best price of 11/10 with Stan James whilst the Hammer is out at 7/4 with Sky Bet.
There is really nothing to choose between the two men although Hamilton will often be under-rated and provide great value as such. He also inspires more confidence than the sometimes flaky Flying Scotsman so it is the 7/4 on Hamilton that looks the best value.
