Artist and Webby offer Grand Slam value
It’s day one of the Grand Slam of Darts and there are a couple of standout bets to be had.
The best of the night is to be had in the first match of the night as Kevin Painter takes on Dean Winstanley. Winstanley has had what could be described as an acceptable debut season in the PDC, Over The Top hasn’t uprooted any trees since switching from the BDO at the beginning of the year, but has more than held his own and earned a few quid along the way.
Kevin Painter, by contrast, has been ‘holding his own’ in the PDC for over a decade now and even enjoyed a stint in the Premier League earlier this campaign as reward for his triumph in the Players Championship Finals 11 months ago.
Painter is an experienced campaigner on the big stage, and although Winstanley is traversing a steep leaning curve in the PDC he still has some way to go before he can consider himself on a par with The Artist. Talent-wise I’d say these two are fairly evenly matched, but Painter has the advantage in terms of experience and also won’t be scared to deploy a few ‘dirty’ tactics if necessary.
Take the 11/10 that Betfred are offering about a Painter victory tonight.
My second best bet of the night coincidentally comes in the second match of the night where 2010 champion Scott Waites takes on Mark Webster. Waites has flown the BDO flag in this tournament reaching the final in 2009 before taking the title 12 months late with a famous comeback win over James Wade in the final.
However, we haven’t seen a lot of Waites in the past 12 months, but what we have seen hasn’t been anything special and I can’t help thinking that, from a professional point of view, he should of made the switch to the PDC before now.
Webster has also had a poor season, only winning one televised match since the World Cup of Darts at the beginning of the campaign, but of two out-of-form players I’d much prefer to take the 5/4 being offered on Webster a win.
Painter to beat Winstanley @ 11/10 with Betfred
Webster to beat Waites @ 5/4 with William Hill
